CPS officials to go over new class schedule with middle school and high school families

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia Public Schools officials are set to meet virtually with middle school and high school families Thursday night going over a new class schedule for the upcoming school year.

An email sent out Wednesday said district leaders continue to work on changes to the fall schedule after the school board pushed the start date back to Sept. 8.

The email said the informational webinar will start at 6 p.m.

The meeting will go over the "4x4" class schedule that will be in place throughout the next school year.

It affects students attending class in-person and online.

"We understand that middle and high school schedules are extremely complicated, with many nuances," the email said.

District families can choose between in-person class or virtual. In-person learning could be five days a week in class, a hybrid schedule with two days in class and three days online, or fully online depending on the amount of COVID-19 cases in the community.

If the district decides to use the hybrid option, it would monitor COVID-19 numbers in the community and within CPS zip codes.

The district would have in-person classes if the 14-day case rate per 10,000 people was 0 to 9. The district would use the hybrid method if the rate was from 10 to 49, and would have classes fully online if the rate was at or above 50.

District leaders will announce the in-person format for the start of the school year by Aug. 24, according to the email.
