Columbia Public Schools, Jefferson City School District, other area districts call off Tuesday classes; LU remote again

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Several area school districts will once again not be in session on Tuesday.
Columbia Public Schools will have it second AMI day of the year on Tuesday, a district spokesperson said in an email.
“Columbia Public Schools will not be in session on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. The district will have Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) on Tuesday,” the email reads. “Columbia Public Schools has worked to prepare all parking lots and walkways and expects to have the work completed across the district by Tuesday morning. However, low temps will bring refreeze challenges. Additionally, the community needs additional time to clear priority and secondary roads to make travel safer for buses. Safety is our top priority.”
Snow fell in the area over the weekend and Monday. Frigid temperatures will continue to impact Mid-Missouri this week, causing the ABC 17 News Stormtrack Weather Team to issue another Weather Alert Day.
The Jefferson City School District will also be closed on Tuesday, a district spokesman wrote in an email.
A number of area schools have called off classes on Tuesday. Southern Boone and Hallsville will treat Tuesday as “traditional” snow days, spokespeople for each district told ABC 17 News in an email. Mexico Public Schools will also be closed.
Blair Oaks and Centralia will have AMI days on Tuesday.
Lincoln University in Jefferson City wrote in a Monday email that it will continue remote operations on Tuesday.
"Work arrangements will be determined by site supervisors at all LU Extension locations and the FLW campus. Employees at these locations should follow their supervisors' guidance," the email says.
