The Columbia Board of Education approved a plan to get all district students back into classrooms starting Jan. 19 when it met Monday night.

The board has endured public pressure from both sides of the debate -- those wanting their children back in classrooms and those who think it's too dangerous because of coronavirus -- for months.

Case rates remain high but approval last week of a coronavirus vaccine has fueled optimism that the country could be turning the corner in regard to the pandemic.
