Rape suspect charged after an investigation on Paris Road
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A rape allegation leads to charges after an investigation of a residence on the 1300 block of Paris road.
According to court documents, Jay Strausbaugh allegedly had sex with the victim and then wrote a note apologizing for it last Friday.
The victim told police that she was drunk and fell asleep in Strausbaugh's bed and woke up with Strausbaugh having sex with her.
According to court documents, Strausbaugh wrote an apology letter to the victim and the victim took a picture of it and showed it to the police.
The letter stated that Strausbaugh shouldn't have had sex with the victim or should have asked for consent according to the probable cause statement.
Strausbaugh admitted to police in a post-Miranda statement to writing the letter.
Police report finding the letter during a search of the residence.
Strausbaugh is charged with 1st-degree rape or attempted rape.
Bond was denied for Strausbaugh.
