Columbia man charged with sexual misconduct after an incident on the University of Missouri Recreation Trail

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

University of Missouri police investigated an incident on the University of Missouri Recreation Trail where a man allegedly was masturbating in front of a runner on Nov. 1, 2020.

Officials say the woman was running the trail when a male rode past her on a bike and would stay to stare at her.

According to court documents, Buriel Simpson is accused of exposing himself and masturbating in front of the victim but rode off when she took out her phone to call the police.

Two weeks later, university police detained Simpson on the MU Recreation Trail. The victim identified Simpson as the same that exposed himself to her according to court documents.

Simpson was arrested and charged in 2009 with sexual misconduct after he was caught masturbating in front of a female on the City of Columbia bus.

Simpson is charged with 1st-degree sexual misconduct.

Simpson's next court date is Thursday.
