Prescription drug take back events to be held in Mid-Missouri
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Prescription drug take-back events are occurring around Mid-Missouri.
One will occur 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Jefferson City Police Department.
The event is part of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s 24th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The DEA and its partners will collect tablets, capsules patches and other solid forms of prescription drugs, according to a press release.
Take Back Day has removed more than 8,300 tons of medication from circulation since its inception, the release states. The event offers free and anonymous disposal of unneeded medications at more than 4,000 local drop-off locations nationwide.
Collection sites will not accept syringes, sharps and illicit drugs. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container. The cap must be tightly sealed to prevent leakage.
The Boone County Sheriff's Office also announced a number of locations for prescription-drug take back events on April 21 and 22.
Two collection sites in Columbia are open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, April 21: Harry S. Truman VA Hospital, 800 Hospital Drive and the MU Student Center.
Sites open 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 22 include the Ashland Police Department, Centralia Police Department, Hallsville Police Department, Sturgeon Police Department, Hickman High School (north entrance) and Rock Bridge High School (north entrance).
