Columbia man charged with multiple crimes after allegedly assaulting an officer
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia man with several outstanding warrants is facing multiple new charges after police found him at Douglas Park Tuesday afternoon.
A Boone County prosecutor has charged Brian Porter with second-degree assault – special victim, third-degree assault – special victim, unlawful possession of a firearm and resisting arrest.
Columbia police responded to Douglas Park after officers identified him sitting in a GMC Acadia parked on 5th street.
When police arrived, they told Porter to show his hands and once his hands were visible, an officer took Porter out of the vehicle, according to court documents. Police allege this is when Porter allegedly began to resist arrest and try to get away.
Police reportedly used pepper spray to get Porter into custody.
Police then searched his vehicle and found a gun, ammunition, marijuana, a scale and drug paraphernalia.
Police report one officer had a bloody nose and broken finger. Another officer reportedly had minor scratches and abrasions on his arm and knee.
Porter is being held without bond at the Boone County Jail.
According to online court records, Porter does not have a defense attorney listed.
