MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Montgomery County prosecutor has charged a Philadelphia man with trafficking drugs after a traffic stop on Interstate 70 on Monday.

Omar Stewart is charged with first-degree drug trafficking and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Monday, a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper stopped Stewart on I-70 near the 174-mile marker in Montgomery County for speeding just after 12 p.m.

The trooper reports the vehicle was slow to stop and once stopped noticed the strong smell of bleach coming from the car and Stewart's right pant leg, the front passenger seat and center console were wet.

According to court documents, the trooper requested a K-9 to help search the vehicle due to the trooper noticing multiple indicators of criminal activity.

During a probable cause search of the vehicle, troopers found 30 pounds of meth in a cooler and over $1,300 in money.

Stewart has a bond review hearing scheduled for next Tuesday.
