A Jefferson City man is facing an unlawful use of a weapon after an August 2020 incident in front of The Tiger's Den.

A Cole County prosecutor has charged Shaheem Bates after an officer reportedly witnessed Bates fire a gun in front of the nightclub.

Bates left the scene in a vehicle but it was stopped a block away by another officer, according to court documents.

Police report finding a gun in the vehicle and officials ay the rounds brand matched the spent shell casings at the scene of the shooting.

During an interview with police, Bates said that two men accused him of being someone else and fired at him first. He shot back in defense, according to the probable cause statement.

Police say no one was injured in the shooting.

Bates does not have a defense attorney listed according to online court documents.

An arraignment is scheduled for the morning of August 2 in the Cole County Courthouse.
