A Fayette man was sentenced to a five-year supervised probationary period in the death of his 15-year-old son after he shot him in Feb. 2021.

According to online case records, 51-year-old Eddie Valencia pleaded guilty to first-degree involuntary manslaughter in April 2022.

Court records show Valencia told police he was checking one of his guns by "dry firing" it and he pointed the gun at his son and it went off.

During an interview with police, Valencia said he didn't check to see if the gun was loaded before firing it. Valencia said the guns "are never put away loaded."

Valencia immediately called 911 and officers found the teen with a single gunshot wound to his head.
