Jury acquits Columbia woman of trespassing that protested in a tree

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A jury acquitted a Columbia woman that protested the city's building of a trail.

They found Sutu Forte not guilty of trespassing Thursday.

Forte camped in a tree for more than a week to stop the city from building a walking and biking trail off Bluffdale Drive in east Columbia.

The city ordered her off to build it.

Her attorney Ben Faber says she and the group "It's our wild nature" actually own the land.

The city had an easement for the trail.

Faber called it a win for personal property rights.
