Short chase Tuesday afternoon in northeast Columbia leads to arrests

COLUMBIA, MO (KMIZ)

A traffic stop by Columbia Police Tuesday afternoon leads to a short car chase in northeast Columbia and one arrest.

Officials say an officer attempted to stop a reported stolen vehicle in the area of the 3300 block of Clark lane. The driver then drove away from a patrol vehicle northbound on Hwy 63.

Police say the chase ended when the vehicle hit an embankment at the roundabout for Hwy 63 and Vandiver Drive.

After the crash, four people then ran away but were soon taken into custody according to police.

The driver, 18-year-old Damaceo Jquan Washington was arrested for tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and endangering the welfare of a child. Washington also faces charges of peace disturbance, stalking, and making terroristic threats according to court documents.

Columbia police continue to investigate this incident.
