Columbia police detain one juvenile after early morning chase

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia officers detained a juvenile after a chase early Friday morning.

Police department spokeswoman Brittany Hilderbrand said in an email officers chased the vehicle after it ran a stop sign near the intersection of Rice Road and Ballenger Lane around 12:42 a.m.

The vehicle continued driving after officers initiated the stop, Hilderbrand said.

Around 1:18 a.m., crews closed Route B just north of Mount Zion Road for a police incident.

The spokeswoman said the chase ended on Route B after officers used spike strips to stop the vehicle.

Five juveniles were inside the vehicle, Hilderbrand said. The police department juvenile officer was called to the scene.

Four were later released to their parents or guardians and one was detained.

The police department said the chase was under investigation. It's unclear as of Friday morning if any charges will be filed in the case.
