Columbia man charged with assault of a man at the Boone County Jail

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia man was charged after hitting a man on the phone at the Boone County Jail.

A Boone County prosecutor has charged Phillip Lawson with first-degree assault.

According to court documents, Lawson hit and choked a man for not allowing him to make a three-way call while talking to the victim's mother for over two minutes.

Lawson hit the victim 31 times and strangled him with his shirt collar, according to the probable cause statement.

A detention officer tased Lawson to stop the assault.

A warrant has been issued for Lawson's arrest.
