A man faces an arson charge linked to Tuesday house fire north of Columbia.

A release from the Boone County Sheriff's Department said 50-year-old George V. Williams, of Columbia, was arrested on suspicion of intentionally setting the fire.

Online court records say Williams faces a felony count of arson.

Crews were called to a residence in the 6000 block of Vickie Drive just before noon for a structure fire. Firefighters said smoke was seen coming from all sides of the house.

Deputies said in a release Williams was the only resident at the scene when crews arrived.

Investigators said evidence showed the fire was an arson. Williams was arrested and booked into the Boone County Jail around 7:30 p.m.

The release did not say what evidence was found at the scene.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Williams was held in jail custody on a $100,000 bond.
