COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

An Audrain County man was indicted in the Missouri Eastern District Court for federal drug charges, according to a Thursday press release from Department of Justice.

Charles Henton, 34, of Mexico, Missouri, was indicted on March 19 with one count of drug possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl. He pleaded not guilty on Tuesday. He is accused of having fentanyl on Feb. 19. He is being held at the Audrain County Jail.

The Audrain County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Thursday social media post that it tried to stop Henton’s vehicle that day on Highway 54 near Clark Street “for an observed violation.” Henton kept driving an allegedly threw half-a-pound of fentanyl out of the vehicle that was later found by deputies, the post says.

Henton eventually stopped the vehicle in the Walmart parking lot and was arrested.
