COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Stover man who was charged in Morgan County last year with murder in the death of a Hallsville man had his trial moved to Moniteau County on Wednesday.

Chad Armstrong, 50, is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He is being held at the Morgan County Jail without bond. A hearing is set for 9 a.m. Friday, May 30.

Armstrong is accused of killing Beauford Wilson, 71, who was found dead on June 30, 2024, against a tree near Beechnut Road, south of Stover, according to previous reporting.

Court documents in previous reporting say Wilson was found dead near a blue 2023 Ford F-150 and deputies found a bullet hole in the bed of the truck, as well as a shell casing. The probable cause statement claims that Wilson was likely killed at another location and transported in his own vehicle.

An autopsy described in court documents claimed that Wilson could have been killed the day before. Deputies searched Armstrong’s truck and found a spent shell casing in the door on July 5, the statement says.

Court documents claim the sheriff’s office obtained video and audio footage on July 11 that was dated June 29. The footage allegedly includes the sound of three gunshots.
