Two people have been charged with felonies after they were accused of stealing more than 20 guns from Macon County.

Kayla Dugan, 36, of Columbia, was charged with two counts of illegal gun possession, one count of stealing a gun and drug possession. Justin Shelton, 30, of Columbia, was charged with two counts of illegal gun possession and one count of stealing a gun. Both people are being held at the Boone County Jail without bond. Court dates have not been set.

According to the probable cause statements, a search warrant was served after the Macon County Sheriff’s Office tipped off Columbia police that Dugan may have stolen 21 guns from a Macon County residence.

Police found 14 stolen guns in the residence and Dugan’s vehicle, court documents say. She allegedly told police that she had placed more guns in a bag at Kiwanis Park. Police found the bag containing nine guns behind a fallen tree in the park, the statement says. Dugan allegedly admitted to taking the guns and hiding them. A total of 23 guns were recovered.

Shelton allegedly told police that Dugan stole the guns and brought them to their apartment, the statement says.
