JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Lincoln University student was killed this week in a shootout with deputies in southwest Kentucky.

Kentucky State Police are investigating after Trigg County deputies fatally shot Jermaine T. Jackson Jr., 21, of Florissant, Missouri, after a chase Tuesday morning, according to a state police news release. Troopers tried to pull over Jackson's vehicle on Interstate 24 shortly before noon and he drove away, according to the release.

Jackson crashed his vehicle and ran, shooting at officers as he did, the release says. Three deputies fired back and killed Jackson.

One deputy was taken to a hospital and was stable, state police said.

A Lincoln spokesperson confirmed Jackson was a student.
