JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A suspect was shot dead after police responded to a burglary call Friday afternoon in Jefferson City.
Officers encountered an armed suspect during a burglary in progress call at about 4 p.m. in the 200 block of Gordon Street, according to a Jefferson City Police Department news release.

The release did not detail who fired the fatal shot or whether it was self-inflicted.
JCPD has asked the Missouri State Highway Patrol to help with the investigation, the release says. JCPD will release no other information, according to the release.
No officers were hurt.
Police did not provide details about the suspect, including age and sex.
This marks the first officer-involved shooting in Jefferson City in 2025. However, similar incidents have occurred in recent years. In 2021, two officer-involved shootings were reported in the city.
In January of that year, 59-year-old James Reising of Columbia was shot and killed by Jefferson City police. Officers responded to a situation at the Wildwood Crossing shopping complex, where Reising allegedly charged at them with a knife.
Later that year, another fatal police shooting occurred involving 32-year-old Clay Willingham of Moberly.
Officers Dawyson Payne and John Lehman stopped Willingham near Capital Mall for allegedly having expired vehicle tags. Payne later stated that upon approaching the passenger side of the vehicle, he saw a rifle in the passenger seat, which was then pointed at him. The encounter ended with both officers shooting and killing Willingham.
