Man charged with murder in Montgomery City child’s death faces more felony charges

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A man who was charged with murder in the death of a toddler in Montgomery City last year is facing more charges.
Bryan Danter, of Montgomery City, was charged on Monday with three counts of illegal gun possession and one count of misdemeanor possessing a defaced gun. Brittany Maheny, who was at the residence the same day the child died, was given the same charges last week.
Danter was charged last year with second-degree felony murder, second-degree drug trafficking and two counts of drug possession. A case review is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, March 7.
According to the probable cause statement, Danter found his 2-year-old son unresponsive on Sept. 3, 2024. Law enforcement saw the body of the child on the kitchen table near a plastic bag containing “a crystalline substance.” Pill containers with white residue, capsules with white powder, two scales and another plastic bag containing white powder was found in the home, the statement says. The substances tested positive for fentanyl and methamphetamine, court documents say.
Danter allegedly told Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers that he then gave Narcan to the child. Danter allegedly told law enforcement that the child had placed a capsule in his mouth the year before at a prior residence, was brought to an area hospital and tested positive for fentanyl, the statement says. Danter allegedly said that he wasn’t sure if the child ingested drugs in September, but claimed it was possible.
Several guns were found inside the home, according to the probable cause statement in the new case.
In another active Montgomery County case, Danter was charged with drug possession, misdemeanor illegal possession of drug paraphernalia and an infraction of driving without a license. A case review in that case is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, March 10.
