COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Boone County prosecutor has confirmed that charges have been filed against a man who was arrested earlier Wednesday in the shooting death of a woman.

Terell Fields, 19, of Columbia, was charged with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and tampering with evidence, Boone County Prosecutor Roger Johnson told ABC 17 News on Wednesday evening.

Police wrote in a press release earlier in the day that Fields is accused of killing Kaidynce Payne, 18, of Columbia, in the 3200 block of Clark Lane, the release says. Payne was pronounced dead at the scene and was found with a gunshot wound, according to the release. Police announced Fields' arrest on Wednesday afternoon.

Fields was listed on the Boone County Jail roster without bond.

An ABC 17 News videographer at the scene saw around 11 Columbia Police Department vehicles near the Super 8 Hotel. A police spokesperson said at the scene that CPD responded to a shots-fired call.

Crime scene tape was removed around 7 a.m. and an ABC 17 News reporter on scene saw a car being towed away shortly after.

A Crime Scene Investigation Van was also on scene for several hours and left at 9:30 a.m.
