Text exchange leads to Columbia shooting, court documents say

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A shooting suspect texted insults to the man he is accused of shooting Wednesday before the incident took place, according to court documents.
Michael Proctor Jr., 21, insulted his "friend" in the text, prompting the friend to drive to Proctor's residence, the documents say. Proctor shot the victim while he was in his car outside Proctor's home in the 1100 block of Madison Street, according to a probable cause statement.
He was arrested Thursday and charged Friday with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. Proctor remained in the Boone County Jail on Friday without bond.
The shooting victim told police that he and Proctor had been friends for about five years, the statement says.
The victim drove away from the scene, realizing he had been hit, the statement says. Police said Wednesday that his injuries were not life-threatening.
Police pointed out in the probable cause statement that the shooting happened in a densely populated part of Central Columbia. A bond memo accuses Proctor of luring the victim to his home to shoot him.
No hearing had been scheduled as of Friday morning.
