COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A competency hearing has been scheduled for a Jefferson City woman who is accused of killing a toddler in 2018 and abandoning the corpse.

Quatavia Givens, 32, was charged with first-degree murder, child abuse, first-degree endangering the welfare of a child and abandoning a corpse in relation to the death of 4-year-old Darnell Gray in 2018. She is listed on the Cole County Jail online roster, but was admitted to Fulton State Hospital last year.

Givens was previously deemed incompetent to stand trial on Aug. 14, 2023. But, the Department of Mental Health deemed her competent on Jan. 20. The defense filed an objection to the order the next day.

A hearing was held on Thursday and an additional evaluation of Givens’ mental health will occur, which was requested by Givens’ attorney. A competency hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, June 6.
