COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Kansas City man was charged with four felonies after he was accused of stabbing two men on Monday at a restaurant in St. James.

Patricio Padilla, 45, was charged with first-degree harassment, second-degree assault, first-degree assault and armed criminal action. He is being held at the Phelps County Jail on a $250,000 bond. A hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

According to the probable cause statement, police were called to a restaurant in the 200 block of Route B in St. James around 3 p.m. Monday for a report of a man harassing a girl. They were eventually told by dispatchers that a stabbing occurred.

Padilla allegedly told law enforcement that he went behind a register and was looking around the restaurant after he heard moaning or crying. He claimed he got out his phone to record the sound and that a man put him “in a lock hold” and another person got “in the way of the knife,” the statement says.

One victim had a 5-inch cut to their lower back and was bleeding out, the statement says. He was flown to a hospital. The second victim had a 1-inch cut on his hand that occurred while trying to disarm Padilla, the statement says.

The second victim told law enforcement that he was in a laundromat near the restaurant when a girl who worked at the restaurant asked for help, the statement says. The girl allegedly said that Padilla was making her feel unsafe.

The man told Padilla to leave, but Padilla tried to go to a room where the girl and another young employee was standing, the statement says. The man tried to restrain Padilla to keep him away from the youth, court documents say. The man tried to escort Padilla out of the building, the statement says.

The other victim tried to hold the door of the business open, but was stabbed by Padilla, the statement says.

The girl had allegedly told police that Padilla was acting erratic in the business and kept sprinting in and out of the business, while saying “cryptic” things to the girl, the statement says.

The young male employee had told police that the girl texted him to come in early because she did not feel safe, the statement says. The boy claimed that Padilla tried to go to restricted areas of the building.
