COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A mental examination was ordered on Tuesday for a Fulton State Hospital patient who is accused of killing another patient at the facility.

Jabril Kanatzar, 29, is charged with first-degree murder and misdemeanor fourth-degree assault in the death of Christos Karagiannis. He is being held at the Callaway County Jail without bond.

According to the probable cause statement, Kanatzar attacked Christos Karagiannis on Jan. 6. Police spoke with hospital workers on Jan. 7 and Karagiannis died from his injuries on Jan. 8, police previously wrote.

Court documents claim that Kanatzar followed Karagiannis around in the day room of the facility and attacked him once Karagiannis turned his back. Kanatzar continued the attack as Karagiannis was unconscious, court documents say.
