COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man and a woman in Moberly were accused of shooting at a man in a truck early Wednesday.

Gavin Ray Lancaster, 20, and Katie Sheets, 24, were charged on Wednesday with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. They are both being held at the Randolph County Jail on $50,000 bonds. Court dates have not been scheduled.

A pair of probable cause statements say the victim got into an argument with the couple earlier in the night at Sheets’ residence. The victim claimed Lancaster carries a .45 caliber handgun and Sheets has a .22 caliber gun, according to the statement.

The victim claimed Sheets pointed a gun at his head and told him to leave the residence. Near the corner of Gratz Brown Street and East Logan Street, the victim and a passenger heard a pair of gunshots and a bullet was later found in the driver seat cushion. A bullet hole was observed by police in the driver side door. Two 9 millimeter shell casings were found by police at the intersection, the statement says.

The passenger claimed that a dark-colored SUV swerved towards the truck and the victim told her to duck just before shots were fired, court documents says.

One of the probable cause statements says that after the truck was shot at, the victim drove back to Sheets’ residence because he thought the people who shot at him were there. Sheets allegedly fired two shots with the .22 caliber from the door of the residence, court documents say. A .22 caliber shell casing was found outside the residence, police wrote.

Police spoke with the couple during a traffic stop and a spent .45 caliber shell casing was found, the statement says. Lancaster allegedly admitted to shooting at the truck, but claimed Sheets never fired a gun, the statement says.

Sheets also allegedly told police that she was in the vehicle during the shooting, but claimed she did not fire a gun, court documents say.
