COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

An inmate at Crossroads Correctional Center in Cameron was charged on Thursday after he was accused of assaulting a corrections officer on May 11, 2023.

Jaquan Brown, 27, was charged in Cole County with first-degree assault and violence to a Department of Corrections employee. A warrant was issued and no bond was set. The probable cause statement says he was originally set to be released from prison on May 29, 2028.

Court documents say that Brown hit a corrections officer while the officer was trying to break up a fight between Brown and another inmate. The officer suffered facial fractures from the assault, the statement says.

Court filings say that Brown pleaded guilty in 2017 to first-degree robbery, two counts of armed criminal action and one count of first-degree assault. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the charges.
