Man found guilty of federal gun charge in 2022 Moberly standoff sentenced 10 years
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A man who was in a nearly day-long standoff with law enforcement in Moberly in 2022 was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison on Monday, according to a press release from the Department of Justice.
Stephen Thorp, 62, was found guilty by a jury in July for being a felon in possession of a gun. He was sentenced on Monday in the Eastern District Court of Missouri.
The release says that US Marshals were trying to arrest Thorp on a warrant for resisting arrest in Callaway County. He was convicted of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in Marion County, but was out on parole.
A standoff occurred at Thorp’s home in Moberly on April 11, 2022, according to the release and previous reporting.
Two people had left the home and told law enforcement that Thorp was still inside, the release says. Thorp allegedly ignored commands to come out of the house and fired shots after a drone went inside the home, the statement and previous reporting say.
