Bond reduced for man accused in Jefferson City man’s 2018 death

The bond for a man accused in the death of a Jefferson City man in 2018 was reduced on Friday.
Berry Jones, 32, of Davenport, Iowa, was charged with accessory to second-degree murder, accessory to first-degree robbery, accessory to delivery of a controlled substance and accessory to tampering with evidence. Jones pleaded not guilty by video from the Cole County Jail and waived a formal arraignment, court records show.
He was originally held without bond and it was lowered to $10,000 on Friday. A bond review was set for 10:30 a.m. Friday. Another hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28. He did not appear in Cole County Jail online records on Friday afternoon.
Charges were refiled on Dec. 5 in relation to the death of Nilez Nichols. Another man accused in the shooting, Semaj Harris, also saw his charges refiled in May.
Harris was charged with accessory to second-degree murder, accessory to first-degree robbery, illegal gun passion, armed criminal action and accessory to tampering with evidence. An arraignment is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21 at the Cole County Circuit Court.
The probable cause statement allegedly that Jones, Harris and another man went to Nichols’ residence to sell drugs on Nov. 19. 2018. The statement claims a “struggle” took place over a gun while a robbery occurred between one of the men and Nichols, and Nichols died from a gunshot wound.
