Prosecutor won’t pursue charges in Boone County police shooting
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A special prosecutor won't file charges against Boone County deputies and Columbia police officers involved in a shootout that ended in the suspect's death.
Officers shot and killed Damion A. Linder during a standoff at a Sturgeon mobile home park in early June. Marion County Prosecuting Attorney Luke Bryant decided last month not to charge any law enforcement officers, according to a letter released to ABC 17 News on Friday.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol investigated the deadly shooting.
Linder died after an hours-long standoff at a mobile home park in Sturgeon on June 4. The Boone County Sheriff's Office said law enforcement returned fire toward Linder when he allegedly shot at them while they were serving an arrest warrant for domestic assault.
An ABC 17 News reporter at the scene that day saw clouds of dust swirling as bullets hit the ground around deputies on the Columbia Police Department's BearCat armored vehicle. Officers from Hallsville and Sturgeon also responded to the scene that day to surround the home where Linder was holed up.
The BearCat suffered gunshot damage.
Bryant's letter did not say whether Linder was killed by his own bullet or one from law enforcement.
