Man charged with murder in fatal Douglass Park stabbing deemed incompetent
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia man who was charged with first-degree murder in a fatal stabbing at Douglass Park in April was deemed incompetent on Monday.
Demetrice Tatum, 39, was charged in April with first-degree murder and armed criminal action after he allegedly stabbed Kejuan Allen to death at Douglass Park. He is still listed on the Boone County Jail roster.
Tatum’s lawyer filed a request for a mental evaluation in July. He will enter the custody of the Department of Mental Health and will be reevaluated within six months to determine if he will be able to stand trial, according to the commitment order.
According to previous reporting, a witness stated in court documents that Tatum used a stun gun on Allen before he cut Allen’s throat and stabbed him 20 times.
