Jury trial scheduled for April for man accused in fatal Primrose Drive assault
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia man who was accused of an assault that killed a man in November has a trial date set for the spring.
Alexander Aklan, 28, was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree drug trafficking, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. He is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond.
A four-day jury trial is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 8. A pretrial conference is set for 8:30 a.m. Monday, March 3. Aklan appeared for an arraignment on Monday and pleaded not guilty.
Aklan and Felicia Hay, 33, of Columbia, are accused in the death of Antonio Davis, 56.
The two are accused of assaulting Davis, with Aklan knocking him to the ground by pistol-whipping him, causing the victim to hit his head and be rushed to a hospital with a brain bleed, according to court documents in previous reporting says. Hay kicked the victim, the statement says.
Hay told police she had met up with the victim to buy methamphetamine and kicked him because he fondled her, court documents say.
Aklan admitted to getting into the fight and told interrogators that he had a handgun on him but claimed he didn't hit the victim hard, according to the statement. Police found a loaded gun and fentanyl on Aklan during a search, the statement says.
Hay is charged with first-degree assault. She is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond.
