Columbia man charged with assault after allegedly running over woman with car in Business Loop parking lot
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia man was charged after he allegedly ran over a woman with a car at a Business Loop 70 business’ parking lot.
Paul Tumminia, 64, was charged with first-degree assault, resisting arrest and armed criminal action. He is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond. An initial court appearance was held on Monday.
The probable cause statement says that police were called on Friday to Plumb Supply in the 2400 block of East Business Loop 70. Police learned that a woman who was covered in blood was apparently run over by a Hyundai Elantra multiple times, the statement says.
The woman allegedly stated she did not want to speak about the incident, but witnesses claimed that they saw the Elantra run her over several times, the statement says. The woman was brought to University Hospital. An employee at the business gave police a recording of the incident, the statement says.
The video allegedly showed Tumminia in the driver seat and the victim as a passenger, court documents say. The woman got out the vehicle and was standing next to the open passenger door, and Tumminia backed up the vehicle to hit her with door, the statement says. Tumminia then allegedly repeatedly ran over the woman with his car, the statement says.
Tumminia worked at the Schnuck’s on Clark Lane and police found the vehicle in the parking lot, the statement says. He attempted to fight police while they detained him, court documents say.
Tumminia claimed the victim “would not allow him to leave her,” and said he would have either have to kill himself or go to prison to “get away” from the victim, the statement says.
