A mental examination was ordered Tuesday for a Jefferson City woman who is accused of stabbing an 80-year-old man to death.

Rejeane Redmon, 27, was charged last year with first-degree murder, armed criminal action and tampering with evidence. She has been in custody at the Cole County Jail since Nov. 25, 2023, jail records show. A case management conference is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2025.

Court documents in previous reporting indicate that Redmon is accused of killing Melvin Callahan. Deputies were called last year to a home in the 3200 block of Landing Creek Road in Cole County, south of Jefferson City, and found Callahan dead on the kitchen floor with stab wounds.

Redmon allegedly gave conflicting statements to deputies and a bloody knife was found outside the home.
