Deputy shoots man with rifle in Camden County

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A deputy shot a Camdenton man with a rifle early Friday after going to a call about a dead body, according to a news release.

Camdenton police and Camden County deputies were called to 95 Third St., with the caller saying someone at the residence was dead, the release says. Law enforcement found Matthew D. MacDonald, 28, who came out of the residence with a rifle and refused to drop it, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

A Camden County deputy fired at and hit MacDonald, the release says. He was taken into custody and taken to a hospital for treatment. Officers did not find a body at the residence as originally reported, the release says.

The Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the shooting and will forward its findings on to the county prosecutor.

MacDonald's condition was not known Friday afternoon.
