Charges filed in weekend Columbia shooting

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia man has been charged with six felonies after a shooting Sunday night left a man with life-threatening injuries.

Tavion R. Johnson, 19, was charged Wednesday with two counts of first-degree assault, three counts of armed criminal action and one count of unlawful use of a weapon after what court documents describe as a shootout Sunday night in the area of Clark Lane and Ria Street.

The subsequent investigation led police to close part of Clark Lane.

Johnson is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond. A court date has not been set.

A woman called police late Sunday saying her mobile home had been shot and officers found several bullet holes and shell casings, a probable cause statement says. Police found a man wounded by gunfire, cars hit by bullets and casings from multiple guns, the statement says.

The statement says one person admitted to firing a gun after being fired at from another residence. Johnson was identified as one of the shooters. Investigators used Instagram videos showing Johnson waving guns at the scene before the shooting to corroborate the identification, documents say.

Police also found evidence to refute Johnson's alibi, the statement says. The statement indicates the shooting might have been part of an ongoing feud between Johnson and another person.

A witness who wished to remain anonymous out of fear for their safety told ABC 17 News that a group of six people were waiting near the corner of a white fence on the property and began to open fire on the home. A  person then emerged from the front door of the home and began firing back, they said. They added that the person who was shot was part of the group of six who initially opened fire.

Columbia police said Sunday that a man had suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound but have not provided more details about his condition.
