Man accused of driving into Osage Beach apartment buildings charged with DWI

OSAGE BEACH, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Camdenton man was charged with multiple felonies after he was accused of driving a vehicle into Osage Beach apartment buildings while he was drunk.

John Vest was charged with driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest and leaving the scene of an accident where damage exceeded $1,000. Court documents say Vest was arrested, but he’s yet to appear on the Camden County Jail’s online roster. A court date has not been set.

According to the probable cause statement, deputies on Monday were called to an Osage Beach apartment complex after a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado ran into the building. Deputies saw siding ripped off of the building sitting next to the truck, the statement says.

A witness allegedly pointed to an apartment where Vest was located, the statement says. Vest apparently had trouble standing, his eyes were glossy and deputies smelled alcohol, the statement says.

Vest allegedly refused a breath test and struggled against deputies when they put him in the back of their patrol vehicle during the arrest, the statement says. Deputies applied for a search warrant to get a sample of Vest’s blood, which ended up taking place at an area hospital, the statement says.

Vest allegedly tried to fight a deputy while at the hospital, the statement says. He then allegedly admitted to driving between two buildings, the statement says.

He also allegedly gave a breath sample at the jail, which showed a blood alcohol level of 0.151, nearly twice the legal limit to drive. Court documents say the breath sample took place about two hours after the crash.
