Columbia man charged with attempted rape, kidnapping, assault
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia man was charged with attempted rape and other felonies after he allegedly assaulted a woman at a hotel on Saturday.
Leonard Hall, 69, was charged with first-degree attempted rape, first-degree kidnapping, third-degree assault and second-degree property damage, a misdemeanor. He is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond. A court date has not been set.
According to the probable cause statement, deputies were called to the Midway Budget Inn Hotel at 8:44 a.m. Saturday. The caller claimed that a woman “was screaming that she didn’t want to be tied up,” the statement says.
An employee allegedly knocked on the door, Hall answered and claimed he was “teaching” the victim “a lesson,” court documents say. Boone County Sheriff’s deputies heard a woman screaming when they arrived, the statement says.
The victim claimed they knew Hall and was invited by him to the hotel to play gambling machines at a nearby gas station, the statement says. The victim allegedly said they didn’t feel safe and attempted to get a ride, but couldn’t find one before going back to the room, the statement says. Hall then allegedly threatened the victim and she barricaded herself in the bathroom before Hall broke down the door, the statement says.
Hall allegedly admitted to deputies that he tried to disrobe the victim before trying to tie her up, the statement says. The victim told law enforcement that Hall also punched her and threatened to hit her with a wire coat hanger, the statement says. Hall also allegedly took the woman’s phone, the statement says.
