Man charged with murder in June overdose death
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A man has been charged with murder in a woman’s overdose death in June.
Zachary Muro, 30, was charged on Friday with second-degree felony murder, two counts of first-degree drug trafficking, drug possession and misdemeanor driving while revoked. Court records say he lives in Moberly, while jail records say he is from Columbia.
Muro is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond. A court date has not been set.
According to the probable cause statement, Boone County deputies responded to an overdose death at 12:26 a.m. June 8 in the 300 block of East Catherine Drive.. Fentanyl was found on the nightstand of the victim’s bedroom, the statement says.
The Boone County Sheriff's Office wrote in a Friday night social media post that Victoria Chapman was the victim in the case. She was 23. The sheriff's office wrote that the Boone County Medical Examiner's Office determined her cause of death was "fentanyl toxicity."
Court documents say law enforcement examined the Chapman's phone and allegedly found text messages between her and Muro that appeared to set up a drug deal. Those messages were sent at 11:42 a.m. June 7, the statement says
Location data described in the heavily redacted probable cause statement says Chapman went to a store before heading home. The phone did not leave the residence after she returned, the statement says. Muro and Chapman were allegedly seen on camera at the store earlier, the statement says.
Muro allegedly sent a text message to another person claiming he sold Chapman a “gram of fenny,” the statement says. Muro was later found with drugs during a traffic stop on June 25, court documents say.
