Two more arrested after shots fired in Columbia neighborhood
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Police arrested two Columbia men this week in connection with shots being fired in a residential area, bringing the total number of suspects to four.
Officers arrested Derek Reynold, 18, on Monday and Amare Carter, 18, on Tuesday, according to a Columbia Police Department news release. Police had already arrested two juveniles.
Reynold was charged Tuesday with four felonies: first-degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. Charges against Carter were not available in online court records Tuesday afternoon but police say they arrested him on suspicion of first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.
Police were sent to a shots-fired call near Godas Drive and Valley Creek Lane on Thursday and found two vehicles and a residence hit by bullets. A probable cause statement filed in Reynold's case says officers found six to eight shell casings at the scene. A bullet went through the front window of a residence and out the back while 10 people were inside -- eight of them youths, the statement says.
Police interviewed a witness who told them they were with Reynold and he planned to do a drive-by shooting on Godas Drive.
Reynold told police he was in the vehicle during the shooting but did not have a gun, the statement says.
A hearing was set for Tuesday afternoon.
