Jefferson City man indicted on murder charge in bar-fight killing
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Jefferson City man has been indicted on a murder charge after a bar fight led to a patron's death last month.
Kamari Balton, 26, was served a warrant on a charge of second-degree murder Tuesday after his indictment Sept. 11. The case was sealed until this week.
The indictment gives few details but says Balton is accused of hitting an unnamed victim in the head, which led to his death.
Police arrested Balton Sept. 13 after the death of Rafael Ayala at Twisted Chicks, a Jefferson City bar. The Jefferson City Police Department said in a news release that police were called there early Aug. 17 and found Ayala on the ground unconscious.
He later died at University Hospital.
The owner of Twisted Chicks said the fight occurred in a parking lot outside the building after the bar was closed for the evening.
A second arrest for an unrelated assault was made at the same location days later.
Balton remained in the Cole County Jail without bond Friday. He has an initial court appearance scheduled for Monday.
