Jefferson City man charged after chase on Highway 54
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Jefferson City man was charged with three felonies after deputies say he led on a chase on Wednesday.
Matthew McGuire was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated fleeing and drug possession. He is being held at the Cole County Jail without bond. A court date has not been set.
According to the probable cause statement, McGuire was driving 124 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone on westbound Highway 54. A Cole County Sheriff’s deputy turned on his overheard lights and siren and McGuire started to pull over near Cassidy Road, the statement says. McGuire then sped away before fully stopping, court documents say.
McGuire drove his vehicle on eastbound Highway 54 toward Jefferson City and was driving more than 100 mph to Route CC, the statement says. Deputies were able to get in front of the vehicle and forced it to stop, court documents say.
The deputy smelled alcohol on McGuire’s breath and McGuire allegedly refused both a breath test and blood sample, the statement says. A search warrant was obtained to get a sample of McGuire’s blood, though the probable cause statement does not list his blood alcohol content.
Jail staff then allegedly found McGuire with a plastic bag of cocaine, court documents say.
