Police make arrest in south Columbia restaurant robbery
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Police have arrested a suspect in the robbery of a south Columbia restaurant last month.
Regis G. Dorsey, 57, is charged with second-degree robbery, first-degree kidnapping and fourth-degree assault. Jail and court records list addresses in Centralia and Columbia for Dorsey.
Police were called to the robbery in the 3900 block of South Providence Road on the afternoon of Aug. 18, according to a news release. The suspect locked one employee in the walk-in freezer and forced the other to hand over about $2,350 in cash, according to a probable cause statement.
The restaurant's name is redacted in the statement.
The employee who was locked in the walk-in still had his drive-thru headset on and alerted a drive-thru customer to call 911, the statement says. Surveillance video from outside the restaurant showed the suspect changing clothes and throwing the outfit he wore during the robbery into a dumpster, the statement says.
Investigators identified Dorsey through video taken inside the restaurant, the statement says. Police arrested him Thursday.
Dorsey has a long criminal history including burglary, stealing and domestic assault, according to the statement.
Dorsey remained in the Boone County Jail on Friday afternoon on no bond.
