KINGDOM CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man who was accused of shooting himself and a woman early Saturday in Callaway County has been charged with 10 felonies.

Kibby Freeman, 42, was charged with first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, one count of first-degree robbery, first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, stealing, illegal gun possession and tampering with evidence.

Freeman is being held at the Callaway County Jail without bond. An initial court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. Court records list his address as Fulton, while the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office stated he resides in Mexico, Missouri.

According to the probable cause statement, deputies were called to the area of Highway 54 and County Road 240 after two people were shot. One of the victims flagged down first responders and allegedly told them that they received a call from a person described as a witness in court documents, who allegedly stated they needed a ride home after running out of gas, the statement says.

The victim allegedly called Freeman for a ride to pick up the witness, and Freeman and the witness allegedly got into an argument after Freeman tried to steal fentanyl from them, the statement says. Freeman allegedly pointed a shotgun at multiple people in his minivan, the statement says.

One of the victims allegedly fought Freeman over control of the gun, the statement says. Freeman fired the shotgun, which hit him in his abdomen and hit one of the victims in their left elbow and leg, the statement says. That victim had a chunk of skin, muscle and ligaments missing, court documents say. Freeman then allegedly swung the gun and hit the victim he fought after the gun failed to fire, the statement says.

After the shooting, Freeman allegedly threw the gun in grass by the side of the highway and ran away, court documents say.
