LINN, Mo. (KMIZ)
A man who led law enforcement on a multi-county chase was arrested on Wednesday following a search is now facing charges.
According to the Osage County Sheriff Mike Bonham, Zachary J. Wheeler was arrested for resisting arrest along with careless and impudent driving. Wheeler also has two warrants out of Warren County.
Osage County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Wheeler after receiving multiple calls to Highway 89 Spur. The Sheriff’s Office initially wrote on its social media that it was investigating a suspicious activity call after a man reportedly knocked on doors and ducked into a wooded area.
Sheriff Michael Bonham told ABC 17 News that a K-9 tracked Wheeler to a Capital Quarries work site near Highway 50. Drone teams from Callaway and Osage counties found Wheeler in the quarry and deputies eventually arrested him. He was brought to the Osage County Jail, Bonham said.
The search had caused the Osage County R-2 School District to close on Wednesday. The school’s athletic department held regularly scheduled practices on Wednesday afternoon and the district announced class would be in session on Thursday.
According to the Osage County Sherriff's Facebook page, a suspect crashed after a chase and got away on Tuesday. The sheriff's office said a pursuit started in Franklin County and went through Gasconade County before entering Osage County where the crash happened.
Wheeler crashed near Highway 50 East and Highway 89 North, which is about two miles from Linn High School. The sheriff's office said in a later Facebook post that the vehicle crashed into a fence and went down a hill before stopping.
Two women in the vehicle were identified as Tavia Krueger and Ashley Lund, according to a social media post from the Osage County Sheriff's Office. Krueger has a failure-to-appear warrant in Franklin County.
