JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Jefferson City police arrested an unidentified driver who tried to run from a traffic stop early Thursday.

The Jefferson City Police Department says in a news release that the 48-year-old Jefferson City resident was arrested after an officer tried to stop a vehicle at about 12:30 a.m. Police did not give a location but said the chase wound through several city streets before officers stopped the vehicle with spike strips.

The driver ran but officers caught up to them, the release says. Police found several grams of methamphetamine, according to the release.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of failure to stop for an emergency vehicle, careless driving, driving an unregistered vehicle, leaving the scene of a crash, drug trafficking and having drug paraphernalia, police say.

The suspect was released from the Cole County Jail pending charges.
