Detroit man charged after shot was fired during fight in Jefferson City
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Police arrested a man from Michigan and one from Jefferson City after at least one shot was fired during a fight Thursday afternoon.
Markel Allen, of Detroit, Michigan, was charged on Friday with unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. He is being held at the Cole County Jail without bond. A court date has not been set.
Officers were sent a little before 2 p.m. to the 200 block of Dawson Street for a fight, the Jefferson City Police Department said in a news release. Police determined a 25-year-old Michigan man fired after finding a spent round in front of a residence.
Investigators also found the gun used inside a residence, the release says. Officers also arrested a 27-year-old Jefferson City man on suspicion of fourth-degree assault.
According to the probable cause statement, there was a fight at a residence that involved at least five witnesses. Allen allegedly grabbed a gun from one of the witnesses’ residences and fired a shot, court documents say. He and two other witnesses then left the area in a Nissan Altima, the statement says.
Police found Allen with a man who was described as a witness in the statement. The witness allegedly told police that Allen fired the gun to break up a fight. A second witness reiterated the same information and claimed the fighting stopped once the gun was fired.
