JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Jefferson City man was charged on Thursday after he allegedly attacked a Cole County Sheriff’s deputy with a shovel on Wednesday.

Antonio Robles was charged with third-degree assault and armed criminal action. He is being held at the Cole County Jail without bond. A court date has not been set.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, deputies were called at 6:30 p.m. to the 3600 block of Highway 179 after Robles’ case worker stated he was “out of control, had a shovel, and was acting as if he was going to hurt others.” The probable cause statement referred to the call as a well-being check.

Deputies saw Robles with a shovel and he began attacking a patrol vehicle, the probable cause statement says. Robles allegedly shattered the windshield of one of the vehicles, the statement says. He then ran at another deputy and hit him in the torso, court documents say. The release says the deputy was hit in the arm. Court documents say the deputy was brought to an area hospital and suffered a shoulder sprain.

Deputies used a Taser on Robles and detained him, according to court documents.
