Jefferson City teen suffers life-threatening injuries in weekend shooting
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A 19-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries early Sunday in an east Jefferson City shooting.
Police were sent to a residence in the 700 block of Ewing Drive at about 2 a.m. for a weapons offense and found the victim, according to a Jefferson City Police Department news release. The victim was rushed to University Hospital in Columbia and the suspect ran from the scene, police said.
JCPD investigators identified Adonius Boykin as a suspect. Police found him in Columbia and arrested him Sunday, the release says.
Police say Boykin, whose age was not given, was charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon, all felonies.
Boykin was in the Cole County Jail on Monday without bond. He appeared in court by video Monday afternoon and pleaded not guilty. Boykin doesn't have a lawyer.
Another hearing to review his bond is set for next Monday.
Information about the victim's condition was not available. Court records including a probable cause statement were not available because of a statewide outage of the courts' electronic filing system.
